The Free tier is meant for solo founders and tiny teams who shouldn't be paying for HR software. When you cross 10 employees, you upgrade.
Active employees on payroll on the last day of the billing cycle. Interns and contract workers count if they're being paid through hrPLANR. Ex-employees do not.
So if you started the month with 50 employees and ended with 48 (two left mid-month), you're billed for 48.
Your account auto-downgrades to the Starter plan with all your data retained. We don't auto-charge — you'll be invoiced for Starter only if you've added billing information.
If you haven't added payment details, the account becomes read-only after the trial. You can re-activate by adding payment or downgrade to Free if your team is under 10.

We migrate from Zoho People, Keka, GreytHR, Darwinbox, BambooHR, and generic CSV/Excel exports. Most 50–200 employee migrations finish in under a week. Larger or multi-entity migrations: 2–4 weeks.
Yes, anytime. Upgrades take effect immediately. Downgrades take effect at the start of the next billing cycle.
One caveat: if you downgrade from a plan that includes a feature you're using (say, AI features when leaving Growth), that feature stops working at the downgrade date. Your data stays put.
